Steve Hodge encourages Leeds United to sign a striker

Steve Hodge has said on LUTV that he would love to see Leeds United go out and sign a striker.

Thomas Christiansen’s side haven’t scored in their last two Championship games and such stats underline the need for a tried-and-tested hitman this month.

Kemar Roofe and Pierre-Michel Lasogga have their uses but neither are 20-goal-a-season Championship strikers and if Leeds can find one in January then it’ll go a long way to boosting their promotion hopes.

The Whites, who sit sixth in the table, drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest on Monday and Hodge says it’s important that United sign a goalscorer.

He told LUTV: “It’s been a strange season. It was a really great start and then a really bad [spell] but the last eight or nine games there’s been a really good response.

“We haven’t been playing brilliantly in terms of getting loads of goals, but we’ve still been winning games.

“I think there’s more to come from Leeds in the second half of the season, and that will depend on who we bring in. I’m not privy to know who we’re bringing in, but I’d love a striker.”

It is indeed vitally important because Leeds, at the moment, don’t look like finishing in the playoff places. There are still inadequacies which can and will get exposed in the second half of the season and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Christiansen’s side slip down the table.

There are problems up front and with the goalkeeping situation, but rectifying both would be a massive boost to their aspirations of reaching the promised land once again.
