The Leeds United summer signing excelled in the League Cup.
Former Leeds United player Steve Hodge has been speaking to Radio Yorkshire about Samu Saiz’s outstanding performance against Port Vale in the League Cup.
The Spaniard scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory, prompting some Whites fans to call for his inclusion in the league ahead of Pablo Hernandez.
However Hodge, who played for Leeds between 1991 and 1994, does not expect the summer signing to maintain his starting spot just yet.
“Come the weekend I am not sure whether he will play or start the game, I think he may be on the bench,” Hodge told Radio Yorkshire.
Leeds have won their first two matches of the new campaign and their style of play under new manager Thomas Christiansen looks set to entertain and succeed in equal measure.
The Whites fell short in heartbreaking fashion last time out, finishing just outside the play-off places despite excelling for much of the campaign, and with the likes of Saiz and Caleb Ekuban not even starting against Bolton Wanderers last Sunday, the future looks bright at Elland Road.
While the Spaniard may have to wait a little longer to be a regular starter at his new club, he has certainly set about making a good first impression.
As Hodge added, Leeds now have the squad capable of changing a game when things are not going their way, adding, “The introduction of (Liam) Bridcutt and (Ezgjan) Alioski changed the complexion of the game. The last half hour was good to watch, some good goals.”
