Steve Hodge comments on Liam Bridcutt exit from Leeds United

Leeds United have sold Liam Bridcutt to Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United have been quite busy in the summer transfer window and have signed a number of players.

Among the players that Leeds have signed so far are attacking midfielder Samuel Saiz, forward Caleb Ekuban, goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, and Vurnon Anita, who can operate as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder.

The West Yorkshire outfit have also let go of striker Chris Wood and midfielder Liam Bridcutt among other players.

Wood’s departure was always on the cards. After all, the New Zealand international scored as many as 27 goals in the Championship last season.

The £15 million that Leeds have got from Burnley for the 25-year-old, as reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post, is a good bit of business from the Whites.

Earlier this week, Leeds sold Bridcutt to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest for a transfer fee reported by The Nottingham Post to be worth £1m.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder was an important player for Leeds under Garry Monk – who is now in charge of Championship rivals Middlesbrough – last season, but the Scotland international was struggling to get playing time under new head coach Thomas Christiansen this campaign.

Former Forest and Leeds midfielder Steve Hodge has admitted his surprise at Christiansen’s decision to let go of Bridcutt, with the two sides set to face each other at the City Ground in the Championship this evening.

“Bridcutt leaving was a bit of a surprise,” said Hodge on The Noel Whelan Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Friday evening (broadcast from 6pm, August 25, 2017). “I thought last year when he played so well, he played nearly every game.”
