Newcastle United are certainly flying in the Championship now. After a difficult start to the new campaign Rafa Benitez has figured out the right formula for success and it is certainly paying off.

Newcastle have won their last six games, including their 6-0 win against QPR at Loftus Road last night.

One man clearly happy with the result was former Newcastle United goalie Steve Harper.

He spent 20 years at Newcastle United as a player, largely as second-choice keeper.

The 41-year-old was speaking to talkSPORT today (14/09/16) when he explained how pleased he was with the club’s transfer business in the summer:

“That was a real statement last night, very impressive win.

“When they did go down they looked at the squad and is it streetwise enough to come back up in what is a tough league. But they’ve rightly addressed that with the likes of (Dwight) Gayle, (Grant) Hanley.

“They will dig in when necessary.”

As well as the pair mentioned by Harper the club also brought in the likes of Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark and Isaac Hayden – all players that can thrive at this level of the game. It appears to be a transfer strategy that is paying off.

Newcastle’s run of six wins has seen them score an impressive 17 goals and, remarkably, concede just once.

If they can keep up this sort of form then there is no doubt Rafa Benitez will be leading Newcastle United back to the Premier League.
