Newcastle celebrated wildly after coming from 3-1 down to beat Norwich 4-3.
Steve Harper has responded to Newcastle’s big celebrations after scoring a stoppage time winner against Norwich.
Gayle’s goal in the 96th minute gave the Magpies victory, sending the St James’ Park crowd wild, as well as the players. Amongst the celebrations, Aleksandar Mitrovic threw the goal-scorer to the ground and Jonjo Shelvey lifted the ball boy in the air, but Harper was disappointed about the lack of an elbow drop.
The former Newcastle goalkeeper famously channelled WWE Superstar The Rock when Cheick Tiote’s dramatic volley against Arsenal completed the Magpies incredible 4-4 comeback against the Gunners, having been four down at half time.

Now part of the coaching staff at Newcastle, Harper was rightfully disappointed that nobody took it upon themselves to drop the People’s Elbow once again, citing Mitrovic as the ideal candidate to have done it.
Despite no elbow drop, the Serbian’s celebrations were very much like WWE, slamming Gayle into the turf before later lifting manager Rafael Benitez into the air.
It may not have been as epic as the comeback against Arsenal in 2011, but the win over Norwich could be a season-defining victory as the look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
