The former Leeds United boss says these three players will always deliver.
Quoted by Inside Futbol, Steve Evans has said that Liam Bridcutt, Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood are three players who will “always deliver” for Leeds United.
Leeds sit 22nd in the Championship table after winning just one match out of six under Garry Monk, who replaced Evans as manager in June.
Taylor is arguably one of the best left-backs in the Championship, while Bridcutt, who joined from Sunderland last month after enjoying a loan spell with the Whites in the second half of last season, has looked a fine addition to United’s midfield.
Striker Wood, however, has only scored twice in the six games that he has started and the New Zealand international very much divides opinion among Leeds fans.
Between loan deals and permanent signings, Monk brought in 12 players during the transfer window but the 38-year-old boss is struggling to integrate them into a cohesive unit – or so it would seem, with Leeds losing four of their six outings.
And Evans believes that the three players he mentioned are perhaps the most reliable that Monk has at his disposal.
“Garry Monk was my replacement in the summer and he has a great opportunity to deliver them a promotion season”, he’s quoted as saying by Inside Futbol.
“If I’m correct, he has made around 12 new signings, spent good money on transfer fees and wages but has added some real quality too.
“Players like Liam Bridcutt, Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood will always deliver for you.”
Taylor and Bridcutt seem fair enough, but it is difficult to agree with Evans about Wood. Of course, he has his uses, but the towering striker has struggled for an impact regularly this season, and Leeds may need a tried-and-tested goalscorer in the Championship before they can even dream about the Premier League.
