Former Leeds United boss Steve Evans has shed new light on his exit from the club earlier this summer.
Evans was left hanging on for a month after the season expired before being let go, with Leeds appointing Garry Monk in his place.
Speaking to SkySports News HQ on Monday (1/8) at 10am, Evans claimed he was promised 24 hours before the final game of the season that he could stay on as manager.

He said: “Cellino did actually [say I could stay]. The day before we travelled to Preston I was told that myself and my assistant manager’s options would be taken up.
“But…the president decided to change him mind a week or two later. That’s his right, he owns the club, but it was a double disappointment.”

Evans did not come across in the interview as bitter, but simply disappointed that he could not have stayed longer at a club which he developed a real admiration for.
Despite Cellino’s claimed promise, Evans may have suspected all was not quite right, given the way he appeared to wave goodbye to supporters on the final day of the campaign.
At that point the Italian’s mind may well have been undecided, and the 0-0 draw away to Preston could have been a contributing factor, against say if Evans’ side had roared towards a 4-0 away win.
