Leeds United striker Chris Wood lost out to Brighton’s Anthony Knockaert in the EFL Player of the Year battle.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates scoring his sides second goal
Leeds United striker Chris Wood’s incredible season has him odds on to land the Championship’s top scorer award.
His 25 goal campaign was though not enough for him to win the EFL Player of the Season honour, much to the chagrin of Leeds United fans.
The award went to Brighton and Hove Albion winger Anthony Knockaert, whose terrific form has fired the Seagulls to the brink of automatic promotion.
Former Whites boss Steve Evans has weighed in on the debate, and believes there was only one clear cut winner.
He told the Football League Paper: “For the overall EFL Player of the Season, there can only be one winner for me. Leeds striker Chris Wood is having a phenomenal season.”

Wood has not scored in his last three matches, and Leeds fans will hope that his award miss will give him a chip on his shoulder which motivates him between now and the end of the season.
Leeds have five regular season matches still to play beginning with the fixture away at Newcastle United this Friday evening, before the play-offs begin. The Whites currently sit in fifth place.
