Steve Evans believes that he deserves some of the credit for Leeds United’s resurgence.
During an exclusive interview with sports journalist Simon Austin, former Leeds boss Steve Evans spoke highly of current Whites manager Garry Monk, and offered praise for the job he is doing at Elland Road, but insisted that he laid down the perfect foundations which have, in turn, enabled the former Swansea City boss to take the club forward.
The West Yorkshire outfit have enjoyed an impressive campaign thus far, and currently sit in fifth position in the Championship table, just two points adrift of third-placed Reading.

Monk has overseen quite a turnaround in performances and results, since his side took just a single point form their opening three league outings, with his position being questioned barely two weeks into the season.
And Evans, who occupied the Elland Road hot-seat for seven months, spoke to Simon Austin about the framework he had installed at Leeds during his time at the club:
“I don’t think they could have made a better choice than Garry. I think he had a wonderful base to build on and has done fantastically well. He’s gone in and done a great job. There were issues that had to be dealt with – certainly some of the players had to go.”

Monk’s men now face a crucial run of fixtures that includes back-to-back away trips to Preston North-End and Aston Villa respectively before a home game against rock-bottom Rotherham United.
A return of at least seven points from those fixtures would see Leeds placed perfectly for an automatic promotion push during the second half of the season, and what a turnaround that would represent after their 13th placed finish last term.
