Leeds United beat Cambridge United 2-1 in FA Cup action on Monday evening.

Steve Evans has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on 11th January, that he wasn’t surprised that Leeds United struggled against Cambridge United in the first half of their FA Cup tie.

Garry Monk made a number of changes to his starting line-up at the Abbey Stadium, and initially there were fears that Leeds could have been on the wrong end of an upset.

League Two side Cambridge dominated proceedings in the first period of the match, and went into the break at 1-0 up.

However, after Monk spoke to his team at half-time, Leeds began to turn things around.

The Whites scored their goals through Stuart Dallas and Alex Mowatt to secure their progress to the fourth round of the cup competition.

And Evans, who was in charge at Elland Road last season, said: “I think everyone knows they were poor, but that was a lot of the players we were left with last season.

“But Garry Monk is a gifted guy, and he probably got into two or three of them and to be fair, they controlled the second half.”

Leeds are now due to face AFC Wimbledon or Sutton United in the next round of the cup competition.

Monk’s side are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on Derby County at Elland Road in Championship action.
