Northern Ireland’s Conor Washington celebrates scoring their second goal
Former Leeds United boss Steve Evans has let slip this week that he was urging the club to sign Peterborough United striker Conor Washington – before he made the move to QPR.
Speaking to QPR director of football Les Ferdinand on talkSPORT yesterday (04/08/2016) the Scot, who is based in Peterborough, had this to say regarding the 24-year-old:
“I must admit when you moved rather quickly last season to sign young Conor Washington from Peterborough, obviously it’s my home city as I call it now, I was urging the people above me (at Leeds) to do something with Washington.”

Washington was of course a hot property in the winter. He had scored an impressive 15 goals in 31 appearances for The Posh and was wanted by plenty of Championship clubs.
Leeds were after striking reinforcements in the winter, but in the end came up short in their pursuit.

Washington ended up joining QPR in a deal worth £2.8 million, according to the Daily Mail.
However, he has struggled since his move to Loftus Road. He only recently scored his first goal for the club in a pre-season friendly v Watford and will be hoping for better in a full season with the Hoops.

He has however enjoyed better times with Northern Ireland. He played with his nation regularly at Euro 2016 and has scored twice in five caps.
As for Leeds they have moved on, with talented Swede Marcus Antonsson and Oxford United’s Kemar Roofe both arriving this summer to strengthen the striking position for a side now managed by Garry Monk.
