Steve Clarke’s comments on Jordan Jones should excite Rangers fans

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly vying to bring Jordan Jones to Ibrox in January.

With Rangers sat at the top of the Scottish Premiership, the Ibrox faithful will be extremely excited to see what January targets Steven Gerrard has on his radar.

The Sunday People (09/12; page 52) suggested earlier this month that Jordan Jones was one player the Gers had his eye on. The winger seems to have been linked with Rangers for a long time, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it appears that we will soon find out whether he ends up at Ibrox.

And based on his manager’s comments following Kilmarnock’s 3-1 win against Dundee at the weekend, it appears that Jones is peaking at the perfect time to encourage Rangers to follow up their initial interest with a bid.

“I thought Jordan was terrific, absolutely terrific. He had a little spell where he sat out for a couple of games and he wasn’t too happy – he wasn’t happy with me or himself,” Steve Clarke told Kilmarnock’s official website.

“Since he got back into the team his performances have been absolutely electric and he was the same today. He’s a great talent who carries the ball really well for us and creates chances.

“I’m delighted with Jordan and delighted for Jordan.”

Jones’ statistics this term do not do justice to the problems that he causes most full-backs in the Scottish Premiership. He is an extremely exciting player and arguably has the natural talent to make an impact for Gerrard’s side.

Rangers must now weigh up whether they move in January or hold their nerve and look to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season – but there are likely to be plenty of Gers fans who want the club to snap him up before he heads elsewhere.

Judging by Clarke’s comments, he may be hitting form in time to potentially help Rangers capitalise on their current position in the table.
