Pierluigi Gollini is one of three signings that Aston Villa have made so far this summer.
Aston Villa assistant manager Steve Clarke has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 22nd July on TalkSPORT, that he feels Pierluigi Gollini is a big prospect for the future.
Gollini was brought to Villa from Hellas Verona this summer, and he expected to become the Midland side’s number one goalkeeper for the upcoming campaign.
Gollini impressed with his performances in Serie A last term, and Clarke feels the Italian stopper is one of a number of good singings which Villa have made this summer.
“We’ve brought in Gollini, who’s a big prospect, we’ve brought in Elphick for experience and we’ve brought in Aaron Tshibola, who is a good prospect,” the former Reading boss said.
Clarke has also been satisfied by the work-rate of Villa’s players over pre-season.
The Claret and Blues have been training in Austria for much of the build up to the new campaign, and they are still unbeaten in friendly matches.
“It’s been good. It’s been important to pick up the spirit because they had a really disappointing season last year,” Clarke added.
“I think it was important for Roberto and myself to come in with a fresh mindset and not think about what happened before. He had to judge the group and find it as it is.”
Villa won just three Premier League matches in the entirety of last season, however they are expected to have a much more productive campaign this time around.
Villa are currently the second favourites to win the Championship, behind Newcastle United.
