Aston Villa are reportedly keen on Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones.
Aston Villa are making steady progress under the tutelage of new boss Dean Smith, and he will be assessing his squad ahead of the January transfer window for potential additions.
Smith is an attack-minded boss, as seen with the 3-0 thumping of Derby County before the international break, and he is now being linked with another attacking addition.
The Daily Mail report that Villa are keen on Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones, and could take on Swansea City for his signature when the January window opens.
Jones, 24, has been starring in Kilmarnock since a 2016 move from hometown club Middlesbrough, and is set to move on in 2019 as his contract with Killie runs out at the end of the season.
A Northern Ireland international, Jones is full of pace and dribbling ability, and whilst Villa have a host of wingers already, they could move for Jones to bolster Smith’s options.
Those not too familiar with Scottish football may not know a great deal about Jones, but one man who really loves the winger is Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke, who of course had a spell coaching at Villa and even became caretaker manager in 2016.
Clarke has hailed Jones during his time in charge of Killie, and one interview from earlier this year in the Dorset Echo summed up what Villa fans could expect, calling him ‘outstanding’ after a 2-0 win over St Johnstone, praising him for being quick, direct and exciting.
“He was outstanding,” said Clarke. “Lee Erwin for me was outstanding (too). Jordan will get the headlines because he is quick and direct. He’s a good player and a player I would pay to watch because he’s exciting, commits defenders and tries to make things happen. He’s been good for us,” he added.
