Steve Clarke has been touted as a potential candidate for Glasgow Rangers after overseeing a victory at Ibrox before the international break.

In comments reported by the Daily Record, Steve Clarke has insisted that he is happy with Kilmarnock and any talk of him swapping Rugby Park for Rangers is nonsense.

Clarke continued his superb record against the Old Firm before the international break as a Kris Boyd winner ensured that he now has three victories over the top two since his arrival in late 2017, including two over the Gers.

With Graeme Murty’s contract only set to run until the end of the season right now, Alex Rae suggested to The Scottish Sun that the Gers hierarchy would be making a huge mistake if they did not make a move for the 54-year-old in the summer.

However, Clarke has quashed any suggestion that he would be keen to make the switch to Ibrox by insisting that he is more than happy staying at Killie.

“One of the good things about going down south is you don’t get caught up in all the nonsense,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“The media like to say, especially when it comes to the Old Firm, you’re going to move here, there and everywhere. I’m happy at Kilmarnock, I’m happy with the job I’ve done so far and hopefully we continue that.”

Given that he has not been reported as an actual target for Rangers, it is probably little surprise that he has looked to distance himself from the job – whether he would actually be interested in succeeding Murty or not.

There is the potential to make himself look a little foolish if he talks about wanting to make the switch to Ibrox if he is not actually linked further down the line. He certainly should be in the frame, but Clarke is probably making the smart decision attempting to quash speculation.

But if he does secretly have any desire to make the move at the end of the season, Rangers would be the ones acting foolishly if they did not include him on their shortlist based on the work that he has done this season.
