Glasgow Rangers have made a bid to bring Jordan Jones to Ibrox, but it has been rejected.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park Stadium on October 28, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steve Clarke has suggested, in comments reported by the Evening Times, that Rangers’ bid for Jordan Jones was nowhere near enough and added that if he was the Kilmarnock winger, he would be sad about the Gers’ offer.

The Light Blues made an offer of £350,000, according to the Evening Times, for the highly-rated wide-man. However, Rangers have since seen that bid rejected by their Scottish Premiership rivals. And Clarke is adamant that Rangers will have to improve their offer significantly if they hope to sign the Northern Ireland international.

“There’s been a bid, nowhere near acceptable. I would be a little bit sad if I was the player, to be honest, that the bid was so low,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“It was an easy one for the club to turn down.”

The Daily Mail reported back in November that Premier League and Championship sides were keen on the 23-year-old, with Burnley and Norwich City interested in handing him a chance in England.

Given that interest, it would arguably be a wise move from Rangers – if they are still keen on signing Jones during the January transfer window – to make a significant improvement on their next offer.

Killie will surely be reluctant to sell to a divisional rival anyway, and the Gers making a series of offers well below their asking price may make them more determined to keep the winger away from Ibrox, whether that be by keeping him, or by steering him towards one of the English sides who are interested.

If the Rangers hierarchy have Jones near the top of their wishlist, then it surely makes some sense to now meet Killie’s asking price or make an offer that comes close as Clarke’s comments certainly suggest that there is some frustration at Rugby Park right now.
