Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606, Steve Claridge has described Liverpool as a fly in the ointment of the big sides this season.
The Reds have enjoyed a strong first half of the campaign and are currently well in the title race.
They are second in the table, six points behind leaders Chelsea at this moment in time.

They are also the league’s most exciting attacking team, having put 40 goals past their opponents so far, the most managed by any top flight side.
A serious title bid looks likely to be on the cards and Claridge has used an interesting analogy to describe their impact thus far.
“Going forward they’re as good as anything. They can beat anybody. They’re the fly in the ointment,” he told Radio 5 Live.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool can continue to challenge for the title in the remainder of this season.
They have impressed so far but are yet to show the same kind of consistency that the likes of Chelsea have managed.
If they can do that, they will be serious challengers and continue to be the fly in the ointment that Claridge says they are.
If they cannot, then a top four challenge should be the least of their ambitions and even that would be a fine achievement for Jurgen Klopp’s first full season in charge.
