The BBC pundit made a harsh criticism of the left-back during the Bournemouth game.
Tottenham Hotspur go into their Premier League clash with Aston Villa this weekend riding the crest of a wave after a 5-1 thrashing away from home against Bournemouth. A hat-trick from Harry Kane along with goals from Moussa Dembele and Erik Lamela did the job for Spurs who picked up their first win in a month.
They take on struggling and managerless Aston Villa on Monday night with hopes of emulating that result – with the exception of one moment.
Spurs were 1-0 down at Dean Court within the first minute.
The defence failed to deal with a Charlie Daniels cross which landed at the feet of Matt Ritchie – who happily hammered the ball past Hugo Lloris for 1-0.
One BBC pundit knew where to direct the blame. Steve Claridge, who has two brief spells as a player at Bournemouth in his playing career, was speaking on the BBC about Rose’s part in that goal – stating:
“I am looking at Danny Rose and thinking how’s he allowed him to do that and beat him at the near post? He doesn’t quite do enough for me, but it’s a wonderful finish.”
Rose is a player often criticised and he did not cover himself in glory for that goal but to single him out was definitely unfair. The cross was a soft one to let in the box and Jan Vertonghen could have cut the ball out prior to Rose’s error.
In the end it didn’t matter after a 5-1 win but against sturdier opposition Tottenham must ensure they are switched on from the get-go. That goes for everyone, not just Rose.
