The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper has been in inconsistent form of late.
Wolves legend Steve Bull spoke exclusively to the Express & Star during a Q&A session, and shared his belief that John Ruddy needs to improve upon his current form.
The 31-year-old joined the Black Country outfit on a free transfer in the summer, after his contract expired with Norwich City, and he looked like a fantastic coup during the first half of the season.
He has suffered with inconsistency since the turn of the year, however, with some shaky displays proving to be costly for his side.
Bull, who scored a record 306 goals for Wolves, highlighted the need for Ruddy to command his penalty area with greater authority, when speaking exclusively to the Express & Star, although he did back the stopper to return to his best:
“You need Ruddy to demand his box, and come out and get the ball, but we all make mistakes, Ruddy will get through it. He will know himself, he’s got to pull his finger out and get back to the John Ruddy we knew before.”
Wolves face a crucial week of fixtures when they return to action after the two-week international break.
A home game against Hull City is sandwiched by two really tough away trips to Middlesbrough and Cardiff, and if they manage a return of at least seven points from those games, it could very well be enough to secure their promotion back to the Premier League.
Ruddy will have to return to his best as soon as possible, though, if his side are to finish off their campaign in comfortable fashion.
