The Bournemouth-owned hitman has impressed during his loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves legend Steve Bull talked up the possibility of his former club signing Benik Afobe on a permanent deal in the summer, when writing a column for the Express and Star, and suggested that the striker has sent a clear message to Nuno Espirito Santo in recent weeks with some of his performances.
The Black Country outfit have been quite simply sensational this season, and have already secured the Championship title, with two games to spare.
Afobe joined Nuno’s men on loan from Bournemouth in January, and he has proven to be a really positive addition to Nuno’s side, scoring six goals in 15 outings this far, with only six of those appearances being starts.
Bull, who scored a club record 306 goals for Wolves, told the Express & Star how the 25-year-old has sent Nuno a real statement with some of his displays in recent weeks:
“Everything about the second goal from Benik Afobe – the 50-yard ball forward, the touch – was great. He sent out a statement saying ‘If you sign me up you will get more of this’. Afobe is looking in good form now, he has scored six goals. Fosun have done a good job by bringing him on. He has done a good job to keep us up there but whether they will sign him I don’t know.”
Afobe still has two games to prove to Wolves that he is worthy of a permanent deal at Molineux, and if he scores a couple more goals, who would bet against him leading the line for the Black Country outfit in the Premier League next season?
