Two wins in a row lifts Wolves comfortably clear of the bottom three for now.

Wolves legend Steve Bull has told the Express and Star that the club’s players are showing signs of belief again under Paul Lambert after their dramatic comeback win against Bristol City on Boxing Day.

A stunner from Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro’s late penalty ensured Wolves recovered from a 2-1 half-time deficit to secure back to back victories for the first time since August, lifting them up to 15th in the Championship table.

Wolves have won just three of their seven league fixtures since Paul Lambert was parachuted in after Walter Zenga’s decent start to the season collapsed, though recent performances have hinted at a renewed positivity and confidence within the ranks.

In particular, the Midlands club held on under sustained pressure to claim a vital win away at QPR last month before recovering from a poor defeat at Cardiff and a last-minute Fulham equaliser to defeat Nottingham Forest on the road.

And Bull believes this is a credit to the belief Lambert has instilled within the squad since replacing the former Italian international goalkeeper at Molineux.

“Fair play to Paul Lambert who has got them sorted out at half-time [against Bristol City] and they’ve attacked it like a bull out of a gate in the second half,” the 13-time England international told the Express and Star.

“There’s a great spirit and passion about them at the moment. That’s something that was maybe knocked out of them in the last few weeks under Zenga.

“We’ve said all along it will take time for Lambert to get his team playing the way he wants them to but there are positive signs already and his substitutions were excellent.”

A number of Wolves players have earmarked the renewed togetherness as a key factor in their slight improvement under Lambert, with the team’s character likely to count for a lot if they are to turn the season into something respectable.

The club’s new owners, Fosun International, are going to have to wait to see Premier League football at Molineux but after such a prolonged dip in form, a top half finish would surely be considered a success this season.
