Ross McCormack has not been taken to Aston Villa’s training camp in Portugal.

Steve Bruce, Manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Steve Bruce is refusing to give Ross McCormack a chance to salvage his Aston Villa career and that could be a mistake.

McCormack has not been included on Villa’s training camp to Portgual, with the striker surely destined to depart this summer.

McCormack has had major differences with Villa boss Bruce during his time at the club, and was loaned out to Melbourne City last season.

However, with Villa struggling financially, it may be that McCormack should be considered as an option again.

Of course, McCormack is on a sizeable salary, but the claret and blues will do well to find better than him on their budget.

McCormack is a proven scorer at Championship level, and with Scott Hogan’s and Jonathan Kodjia’s futures in doubt, there seems to be room for another striker at Villa Park.

Villa will almost certainly have to search for free transfers or loan deals, as they look to improve their attacking quality.

But McCormack may be a better option than anything on the market in their price range, and Bruce could be harming Villa by not giving the Scottish international one more chance to impress.

If Villa do struggle for goals next campaign, Bruce may just wish he still had McCormack around, as if the claret and blues could get the striker back to his best, there is no doubting his quality in the second tier.
