Newcastle United have already been linked with the pair, as Steve Bruce reportedly edges closer to the job at St. James’ Park.

Steve Bruce would be making a mistake by signing both James McCarthy and Yannick Bolasie for Newcastle United.

According to 90 Minutes, Newcastle want both Bolasie and McCarthy from Everton, with Bruce thinking about signings he could already make at St. James’ Park.

However, with Bruce fighting against his doubters at Newcastle, bringing in McCarthy and Bolasie would hardly be advisable.

A key reason why Rafael Benitez left the club is because he wasn’t allowed to sign older players, which he wanted.

If Bruce was to step into Newcastle and immediately be given permission to sign McCarthy, who is 28 and Bolasie, who is 30, it would be hard to watch for the St. James’ Park crowd.

Immediately Bruce would be getting supporters’ backs up by making the double swoop, given that Benitez seemingly wouldn’t have been allowed to do similar.

There are also question marks over McCarthy’s and Bolasie’s suitability to Newcastle.

Granted, the Magpies badly need to add squad depth and the pair are proven in the Premier League.

However, Bolasie and McCarthy have suffered badly with injuries in recent times and their form has not been encouraging.

McCarthy has not played a game for over a year, while Bolasie failed to make a positive impact at Aston Villa in the Championship.

The pair would hardly be signings to take Newcastle forward and prove their ambition, which has been heavily doubted, and Bruce definitely shouldn’t be attempting the double swoop if he does take charge.
