The Italian spent time on loan at Hull City with Steve Bruce.
Sunderland’s Vito Mannone celebrates
Aston Villa fans have started to be won over by the performances of their goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. The Manchester United loanee has kept plenty of clean sheets recently and was voted man-of-the-match in the recent 2-0 win against Wigan Athletic.
No doubt Steve Bruce would love to keep the player, but it is important to remember that Johnstone is only on loan at Villa Park.
If Villa were to need another keeper, there is one name that Bruce must surely consider – Sunderland stopper Vito Mannone.
The Italian is currently being sidelined from first-team action at Sunderland because of the form shown by talented young English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Of course, Bruce knows him well.
Sunderland’s Vito Mannone
He had Mannone on loan in 2012 and wanted to sign him permanently from Arsenal after he had impressed in his second loan spell with The Tigers.
The 29-year-old is a player with experience in the Championship and Premier League who could easily cut it at Villa Park, should Bruce have to replace Johnstone.
Mannone might be a perfect option for Aston Villa this summer.
