Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott claimed he could see a pathway to Steve Bruce’s first-team when he signed.

If Steve Bruce signs two midfielders for Newcastle United in the January transfer window, Kyle Scott may be questioning why he joined in the first place.

Scott signed for Newcastle in the summer, and cited first-team chances as his reason for joining, as reported by the Chronicle.

The 21-year-old still does have time on his side, as he aims to make an impact on Newcastle’s first-team, but his pathway to Steve Bruce’s starting line-up could be about to be blocked.

The Chronicle now claim that Newcastle want to sign two central midfielders in the summer, and that will leave Scott way down the pecking order.

The former Chelsea man has already seen Matty Longstaff overtake him in the pecking order since signing, with the 19-year-old scoring on his debut last weekend.

Longstaff played with his brother Sean in midfield, and the pair may well now be Newcastle’s first choices in the position for the coming weeks.

Newcastle also have Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-Yeung to call upon, if needed.

If two more central midfielders are now set to join Newcastle in January then Scott could find himself as eighth choice in the pecking order.

And, given that he wanted a route to the first-team, he may be left scratching his head at how he is going to manage to achieve that, if Bruce’s transfer plan comes off.
