Bruce has high hopes for Villa’s latest teenage debutant.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has talked up the potential of the club’s newest young star Keinan Davis and the general generation of youngsters coming through the academy, as quoted by the club’s official website.

Davis became Villa’s newest debutant when he was handed his first-team bow by Bruce as a 77th-minute substitute in the 2-0 FA Cup third-round defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

The 18-year-old has been a big hit with the club’s development side in recent times, and showed his talent again with a brace in a 4-3 defeat to Norwich City’s youth side on Thursday night.

Much is hoped for the teenager’s future career at Villa, and the spotlight has begun to fall upon him in recent weeks as the saga of the future of fellow teenage striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy rumbles on.

Bruce certainly seems encouraged by what he has seen so far from Davis, and hailed the club’s youth system for producing such talented youngsters.

Bruce said, via the club’s official website: “Keinan has just signed a new contract, scored another two last night [Thursday] for the U23s against Norwich.

“He’s learnt and come to the top from non-league very quickly.

“We’ve got two or three knocking on the door. That can only be a good thing. This club has always had a history of producing players. It’s done well over the years. Let’s hope this new crop can make a fist of it.”

Given the high hopes surrounding Davis, it would not be too much of a surprise to see him appearing on the bench (at the very least) on more occasions this month.

Davis, who admitted his delight and thanked the Villa supporters after his debut last weekend, will likely be hoping to see more action.

Given that Villa are light on attacking options following the sale of Rudy Gestede to Middlesbrough and the departures of Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodjia to the Africa Cup of Nations, he may just find himself with more opportunities in the coming weeks.
