Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce took charge of the Owls at Hillsborough for the first time on Saturday afternoon, playing out a 0-0 draw with Reading.

Bruce was confirmed as Wednesday boss in early January, but with a one-month delay to him taking the reins as he took some more time out of football.

Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence have been taking charge, but Bruce started work with a win at Ipswich Town last weekend.

On Saturday, Bruce was in the home dugout at Hillsborough for the first time, as his side took on relegation-threatened Reading.

Sadly, the home fans didn’t see any goals as the two sides played out a stalemate, but Bruce was given a superb welcome by Owls fans.

After the game, Bruce took something of a dig at former club Aston Villa, suggesting that the fan reception was much better than it was at his last club, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

Bruce bizarrely had a cabbage thrown at him by a Villa fan back in October, just hours before he was sacked, so he was greatly appreciative of fans supporting him once again.

“It was a bit bloody better than the last club I was at!” said Bruce. “We were conceding goals for fun, so that’s a positive and the big positive for the day was the reception I got from the supporters. It was quite remarkable and for each and every one of them to come out and support the team on a day like today just shows that great support that we’ve got,” he added.
