Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff excelled in Steve Bruce’s side’s last match.

Longstaff topped the running stats for Newcastle, as they picked up a shock 1-0 win against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Newcastle’s players’ attitude had been questioned in the early part of the season, but they silenced their critics with a hard-working display against Spurs.
And Bruce admits that he was shocked by just how far Longstaff was able to run.
“He was up there near 13k which in 36 degrees in the stadium was quite remarkable. Something like a thousand metres more than anyone else,” he said.
“Sean has obviously had an unbelievable rise. The big thing, as I said to you a couple weeks ago, was we’ve just got to be wary that he’s had his first big knee operation and my fear was, through periods of being sore, that it didn’t catch up with him at all. He was back to near where he was, especially second half on Sunday.”
Longstaff’s excellent display should be a huge boost to Newcastle, as he is one of their most talented prospects.
Longstaff has already been heavily linked with Manchester United, and looks to have an extremely bright future if he continues to progress at his current rate.

Longstaff may have a watching brief tonight when Newcastle take on Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, as he is unlikely to be risked twice in a week.
A Longstaff may still be in Newcastle’s line-up though as it seems as if Sean’s brother, Matty, may take his place in Bruce’s starting team.
