Aston Villa have not won a Championship game away from home since March, and face Reading at the Madejski Stadium tonight.

Steve Bruce has insisted that it is Aston Villa’s away form that needs to significantly improve if they hope to mount a challenge for promotion this season, the Daily Mirror reports.

Villa go into their clash with Reading this evening looking to bounce back from a somewhat embarrassing defeat in their previous game – having been beaten 3-0 by Cardiff City at the weekend.

The Villans have not won a Championship away fixture since March, while December was the last time that they beat a divisional rival who remains in the second tier this term away from home.

Unsurprisingly therefore, Bruce is adamant that their form on their travels must improve.

“If we want to be successful and mount a challenge our away form has to improve,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“Too often last year we didn’t have the resilience to make a fist of it.”

Unfortunately for the Villans, they will have to show significant improvement if they hope to end that run as beating Reading at the Madejski Stadium will be a big ask for Bruce’s men.

The Royals finished third last term, and their home form was a key reason for their success, as they were beaten on their home patch just twice during the regular season.

But with both sides seeking their first league win of the new season, Bruce will be suggesting to his squad that they will probably have no better opportunity to get the better of Jaap Stam’s men and end that long wait for an away win.
