The Aston Villa winger has what it takes to inspire a promotion push.

Aston Villa's Carles Gil

Aston Villa have plenty of wingers on their books but few of them have impressed this season, so what chance a recall for a forgotten man who could be exactly what Steve Bruce needs next season?

Carles Gil is currently on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, but minor injuries have played their part in a hit-and-miss season and he has a return of no goals and four assists in 20 La Liga appearances.

That does not mean he should be written off by Bruce, who should bring the player back to Villa Park and make it clear he is going to use him week in, week out as a much needed creative catalyst.

At his best, Gil possesses that spark of footballing genius all clubs crave and while the Championship is an unforgiving arena it could be a masterstroke from his manager if it comes off.

Gil may be reluctant to play second tier football but he has to admit that things have not gone according to plan and if he can inspire a promotion push at Villa he could finally show his fans what they have only seen fleetingly so far.

Gil has just 34 outings for Villa to date but with so many of his fellow wingers under-performing at the club this season, he could shoot to the top of the pecking order if he knuckles down and vows to prove his doubters wrong.
