Aston Villa were extremely busy during the January transfer window.
When speaking to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing 2-1 loss at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Steve Bruce took the opportunity to praise the performance of new signing James Bree, despite making it clear that he was not happy with his team’s performance as a whole, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
Should Villa have pushed the boat out to bring prolific goalscorer to the club in January?
The Villans are currently in the midst of a woeful run of form that has seen them slip down to 14th in the Championship table, a full 13 points adrift of sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.
Bruce’s men have not won a game since their 2-1 victory over Burton Albion on Boxing Day, and there now almost seems to be an acceptance amongst the Villa fanbase that their side will not make the promotion play-off spots this season.

But Bruce managed to find a positive in Villa’s loss at the City Ground, praising January signing James Bree to the hilt, when speaking to reporters in his post-match press conference, and quoted via the Birmingham Mail:

“He’s only 19, he’s got a big bright future ahead of him. We’re delighted we’ve been able to get him. We’ve beat off a lot of competition and he looked a very good player.”
Have you read Stan Collymore’s brutal assessment of the Aston Villa side?
The 19-year-old right-back is highly regarded within the game, and if his career path can continue along the current trajectory that it has done so far, Aston Villa will have one extremely good player on their hands.
