Aston Villa have failed to live up to high expectations this season.

Villa boss Steve Bruce sat down for an interview with the Express & Star, and highlighted how his club’s huge reputation, and how they are viewed as a major scalp, will make their task of gaining promotion all the more difficult next term.
The Villans have endured an immensely challenging campaign so far this season, and currently sit in 11th position in the Championship table, a distant 11 points adrift of the play-off spots.
Bruce was appointed as manager at Villa Park in October, with the Midlands outfit languishing in the lower reaches of the table, and despite making an initial impact, it was always going to be a mammoth task for the former Hull City boss to try and steer his side towards a place inside the top six.
And Bruce told the Express & Star how he has his work cut-out next season, if he is to guide his side back to the promised land:
“I am always confident that I can put a team together that can get out of this division. I have done it before and it would be terrific to do it here. It’s never going to be easy because of who we are. We are the big scalp in this division. Everyone wants to turn us over. All the teams that come to Villa Park want to perform on the big stage and in the big arena. So all the bits and pieces make it difficult.”
There are still five games remaining this term, and with the Second City derby on the horizon, it will be vital for Villa to finish their campaign in confident fashion.
If they can gather some momentum, and carry that on through to the pre-season, Bruce’s men will be in a much stronger position form which to achieve promotion next term.
