John Terry has proven to be an excellent signing for Aston Villa this season.

Steve Bruce, Manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Fulham and Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on April 17, 2017 in London, England.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s Championship clash with Hull City tomorrow, and shared his desire for John Terry to keep playing next season, whether his side are in the Premier League or the Championship, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Terry, 37, joined the Villans on a free transfer in the summer of 2017, after his contract with Chelsea expired, and he has proven to be a wonderful asset for Steve Bruce’s side, making 29 appearances in all competitions.

The 78-capped England international’s deal at Villa Park is due to expire at the end of this season, and it is unclear whether he will carry on playing or hang up his boots.

Bruce spoke to reporters yesterday during his pre-match press conference, and insisted that the ball is firmly in Terry’s court regarding a contract extension at the club, as quoted by Sky Sports:

Steve Bruce manager of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Birmingham City and Aston Villa at St Andrews on October 29, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

“Whether we are in the Premier League or the Championship, it is John’s call to say what he wants to do playing-wise. I have said to him, if we get into the Premier League we would want him to stay, because his experience would be invaluable. But we have to respect John and what John wishes. The ball will be in his court.”

If Villa do go on to earn promotion back to the Premier League, having someone with Terry’s experience amongst the squad could prove to be vital for Bruce’s side, and the Villans hierarchy will surely do everything within their power to extend the 37-year-old’s stay int he west Midlands.
