Aston Villa need to heavily invest in their squad if they are to achieve promotion next season.

Villa boss Steve Bruce sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website and highlighted how much work still need to be done at Villa Park, hinting at a busy transfer window.

The Villans have endured a bitterly disappointing campaign this term, and currently sit in 12th position in the Championship table, 15 points adrift of sixth placed Fulham, with many of the club’s signings failing to live up to high expectations.

Many pundits have predicted a squad overhaul at Villa this summer, in response to what has been a totally underwhelming attempt to return to the Premier League.

And Bruce admitted that he is expecting to be busy during the transfer window, as he looks to bring past glories back to Villa, as quoted by AVFC.co.uk:

“Overall, as we look ahead to next season, we still have a lot of work to be done. We are nowhere near where we need to be. I will do my best to turn things around and get where we want to get to. Most of the supporters know it will take time. I have hopefully a hugely busy summer ahead.”

One would imagine that Bruce needs to get rid of the deadwood at Villa Park, before he contemplates bringing new signings into the club.

Quite how much he will have available to spend remains to be seen, but there are players currently amongst the Villa squad that are simply not good enough to wear the famous claret and blue shirt, and they have to be shipped out for the good of the club, that goes without saying.
