Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that loanee Josh Onomah missed Tuesday’s game against Middlesbrough due to a knock picked up against Brentford.
After returning from the international break with a 0-0 draw with Brentford, Villa faced another home game on Tuesday night, with Middlesbrough the visitors this time around.
Former Villa winger Adama Traore was sent off just four minutes into his return to Villa Park, but both teams ended with ten men after Henri Lansbury was also given his marching orders in the second half.

Villa squandered a staggering number of chances; Birkir Bjarnason headed wide from close range after Darren Randolph misjudged a cross, Robert Snodgrass smashed the ball off the crossbar from point blank range, and to add insult to injury, Conor Hourihane’s goalbound shot hit team-mate Scott Hogan on the goal-line to leave Villa with a 0-0 draw.
71% of possession and 18 shots on goal couldn’t help Villa claim all three points against Middlesbrough, leaving Bruce frustrated after a disappointing start to the season.
Previously touted as one of the favourites for promotion, Villa have taken just seven points from their first seven games, and with two blanks in their last two home games, fans are unsurprisingly disgruntled.
With Lansbury now set for a suspension, Villa will hope to have Joshua Onomah back in contention this weekend, as the Tottenham loanee was notably missing from the squad against Middlesbrough.
Tottenham fans and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino shouldn’t worry too much though, as Bruce told the Aston Villa official website after the final whistle on Tuesday that Onomah simply had a knock – and should be fit to face Barnsley on Saturday evening.
“Josh has a knock, which he got late on Saturday,” said Bruce. “He wasn’t quite 100% but he should be okay for the weekend, hopefully,” he added.
