Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official YouTube channel that midfielder Birkir Bjarnason will miss the next
Villa swooped to land Basel ace Bjarnason during the January transfer window, with a fee of around £2million being paid by Bruce’s men (Express and Star).
Bjarnason had enjoyed a career that has seen him play in Norway, Belgium, Italy ad Switzerland, with the midfielder now trying his hand at English football alongside Iceland international team-mates such as Ragnar Sigurdsson (Fulham), Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea), Johann Berg Gudmundsson (Burnley) and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (Wolves).
Having impressed at Euro 2016 with Iceland, many fans were excited to see the 28-year-old in action following his January move – but his start to life at Villa Park has been subdued.
Bjarnason has turned in some lukewarm performances in claret and blue, was shifted to an unfamiliar left wing back role by Bruce, and is now injured.
Bjarnason picked up a knee injury in the 2-0 win over Rotherham United earlier this month, and his injury has already kept him out of action for almost a month.

Ahead of this weekend’s game with Norwich City, manager Bruce has told the club’s official YouTube channel that the clash will come too early for Bjarnason to make his return to action.
Bruce added that Bjarnason could be missing for a further five weeks, meaning he is in a race against time to feature for Villa before the end of the season.
“Birkir is going to be another four or five weeks,” said Bruce. “It’s going to be a bit early for him,” he added.
