Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has told The Mirror that he has been impressed with the club’s fans.
Bruce was appointed the Villa manager in October 2016 following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo.
The former Hull City boss has done a good job at Villa Park so far, as the Villans are back in the hunt for the playoffs.
Villa are 14th in the Championship table at the moment with 21 points from 16 matches.
The Villans are five points behind Leeds United, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
Bruce, a former Birmingham City manager, has shared his appreciation and admiration of the Villa fans.
“The fans have welcomed me,” Bruce told The Mirror. “And what fans they are! My first game was against Wolves at home. A derby. They are always tough. We drew 1-1.
“But it was a few days later when I realised what a fan base this club has. We were at Reading and hadn’t won away for 14 months. You know how many fans we had? More than 5,000.
“That shows the following this club has. The start has been OK. We’ve had five games and we’re unbeaten. Three wins against Reading, Fulham and Blackburn and draws with Wolves at home and Birmingham away.”
Bruce seems to have revitalised the Villa players and the fans, and it is clear that the former Manchester United defender has been a good managerial appointment for Villa.
The Villans will return to action on Friday evening when they take on Brighton & Hove Albion away from home at the American Express Community Stadium in the Championship.
Brighton are second in the league table at the moment with 34 points from 16 matches, just three points behind leaders Newcastle United.
