Tottenham Hotspur reportedly wanted to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham wanted to sign Grealish from Villa in the summer transfer window.
The Premier League club reportedly made an offer of £25 million for the 22-year-old on Wednesday, but Championship side Villa are claimed to have stated that the youngster was not for sale at any price.
Villa manager Bruce, though, has stated that Spurs did not make an offer of £25m, and the former Hull City boss has also suggested that Tottenham missed the opportunity to sign Grealish before the owners came in.
Bruce told The Daily Star: “There was no price. They didn’t make a £25m bid. That’s not true – it’s not the case.
“The owner said the player hadn’t got a price. In fairness, Spurs were respectful of that. They accepted it. They said ‘if that’s the case Steve, then we respect it.’
“Their window of opportunity was before the new owners came in. Once that happened it was made clear that he wasn’t going to listen to offers. Not everybody believed it, but I think they can maybe start believing it now.”
Missing out
Grealish is one of the best young attacking players in the Championship, and the 22-year-old – who can operate as a winger or as a attacking midfielder – would have a good signing for Tottenham.
While the youngster would not have been guaranteed a place in the Spurs starting lineup, the 22-year-old would have strengthened manager Mauricio Pochettino’s options off the substitutes’ bench.
