Aston Villa earned a much-needed three points yesterday.
Following his side’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion yesterday, Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce highlighted the need for Ross McCormack to improve his fitness levels, and how his winning goal will hopefully give him the confidence to really kick on now, when speaking during an interview with BBC West Midlands phone-in.
The 30-year-old striker moved to Villa Park in the summer, for a fee believed to be in the region of £12 million, but has failed to live up to high expectations, scoring just three times in 18 appearances for the Villans.

But his goal yesterday was the most important one during his Villa career, and he will now be hoping to really push on, and start justifying his hefty price-tag.
And Bruce highlighted how the goal will hopefully give McCormack the confidence he needs to start scoring on a regular basis, when speaking to BBC West Midlands, but suggested that he still has a lot of work to do:
“For me he’s got a lot of work to do. You know his fitness levels could be better, he knows that. He’s had a tough time. Lets hope now that little bit of confidence thing that he’s got the winner, he can go on. It was good to see he got the winning goal and that will help him.”

Bruce’s men now sit in 10th position in the Championship table, six points adrift of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday, and their fans will be hoping for McCormack to score enough goals over this next month to help compensate for the absence of Jonathan Kodjia, with the Ivorian set to depart for the African Cup of Nations.
