The Aston Villa stopper is set for an operation on his injured shoulder.
Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media today ahead of his side’s clash with Barnsley in the Championship tomorrow, and provided a concerning injury update on back-up goalkeeper Jed Steer, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 25-year-old has played second fiddle to Sam Johnstone this season, making just four appearances in the cup competitions, but he looks set for a sustained period on the sidelines now.
Bruce spoke to reporters and explained how the stopper suffered ligament damage in his shoulder during Villa’s FA Cup tie with Peterborough United, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“Jed Steer, we’ve had bad news on him overnight. He probably needs an operation on his shoulder. He has done something to his ligaments in his shoulder. He has an operation next weekend which could rule him out for the rest of the season for sure.”
Bruce has had to deal with a plethora of his key men missing large chunks of the campaign this term through injury, but the rest of his squad have performed admirably, and they currently sit in fourth spot in the Championship table, five points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
Bruce’s men welcome Paul Heckingbottom’s Barnsley side to Villa Park tomorrow, and a win will be of paramount importance to their hopes of finishing inside the top two this season.
