Aston Villa edged out Burton Albion with a slender win on Boxing Day.
Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa’s official website that Jordan Ayew has “undoubted ability”.
The Ghanaian has not always found it easy at Villa after joining under Tim Sherwood in a £9 million switch from Lorient in the summer of 2016.
The Villans were relegated in his first season and the 25-year-old was tipped to be one of the best players in the Championship, though it has not really worked out like that at all.
Ayew has fallen foul of Aston Villa fans in recent weeks, but he might be working his way back into their good books after setting up Ross McCormack’s winner in Monday’s 2-1 win over Burton Albion.
And the 55-year-old manager has singled him out for a bit of praise on the club’s official website.
“He’s come here for a lot of money at a time when the club is in not the best of health. He’s found it difficult but he’s got undoubted ability,” said Bruce.
“He made a great run and cross for the goal – and it’s that bit of magic that we have at the moment.
“We can just produce a goal without playing that well. He’s helped do that today.”
Aston Villa have another tough game on Thursday when Leeds United visit the West Midlands. Garry Monk’s side beat Villa 2-0 in Yorkshire earlier this month and Bruce and co will be up for a bit of revenge.
