Steve Bruce responds when asked if Aston Villa can still secure automatic promotion

Aston Villa’s fine run of form was brought to an abrupt end this week.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat at Bolton yesterday, and responded to questions asking him whether his side are now out of the race for automatic promotion, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Villans dropped down a place to fourth spot after yesterday’s results, and could be as much as 10 points adrift of second placed Cardiff City, if Neil Warncok’s men win away at Derby County this afternoon.

Villa fans expected their team to gain promotion back to the Premier League this season, and the last thing they will want is for their side to be involved in the lottery that is the play-offs.

Bruce spoke to reporters after his side’s defeat to Bolton, and responded to questions asking him if his side have blown their chance of finishing inside the automatic promotion places this term, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“There’s still plenty of time to go. We can’t give up, we won’t give up. But we’ve given ourselves a lot to do after two poor performance.”

Villa now have to wait two weeks until they next play – a trip to Hull City on March 31st, and nothing less than a win will do, if they are to keep alive their faint hopes of automatic promotion.
