Steve Bruce says no deal has been agreed with Aston Villa yet.
Steve Bruce has told ITV that he is expecting a phone call today over the Aston Villa job after owner Tony Xia tweeted that he is set to make an announcement about the club’s new manager.
Villa sacked manager Roberto Di Matteo last week after winning just one of his 11 Championship games in charge, leaving the club in 19th place in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Owner Xia must now get this appointment right having landed a dud in Di Matteo over the summer, and reports suggest that Steve Bruce is set to clinch the job.
BBC Sport report that Bruce, 55, will be named Villa boss today having left Hull City over the summer, and he’ll return to the Midlands having previously managed Villa’s biggest rivals Birmingham City.
To add weight to those claims, owner Xia took to Twitter late last night to reveal that Villa will announce their new manager today, with almost everybody expecting Bruce to be appointed.

Shortly after Xia sent that tweet, Bruce was on ITV’s highlights of Slovenia v England, and was unsurprisingly asked about the situation surrounding his possible move to Villa Park.
Bruce was asked about Xia’s tweet, but simply responded by saying he is in the frame, and expects to receive a phone call from Villa today.

Bruce, who has four promotions to the Premier League on his CV, added that the deal isn’t agreed yet, despite Xia’s suggestions that the deal for a new manager has been tied up.
“All I can say is I think I’m in the frame,” said Bruce. “I’m expecting a phone call tomorrow and we will see how that goes, and how it plays out from there. It’s not agreed yet, no,” he added.
