Steve Bruce has hinted he will continue to be patient with Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
Bruce made Dominic Iorfa his first permanent signing at Hillsborough after paying Wolves an undisclosed fee for the versatile defender on deadline day.
And Iorfa’s arrival was quickly followed by those of Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar on loan from Newcastle.
But only Aarons has appeared so far for Sheffield Wednesday, making late cameos against Ipswich Town and Reading, with Iorfa and Lazaar making the matchday squad for the very first time in the latter fixture.
Asked if he was keen to give them game time in the near future, Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Yeah, yeah. They’ll get their chance.
“I think the biggest thing is with the form [of Wednesday’s defenders]. I’ve said to everybody concerned here, they’ll get their chance.
“So yes, I’ve brought in two or three players and them two or three players. I think what’s been great is the last 10 days in particular, they can get to know their surroundings without throwing them in.
“I was delighted with Rolando at the weekend. He came on and gave us a spark. And if he’d have picked the pass out to Fletch [Steven Fletcher] then it would have been a wonderful 25 minutes.
“But yeah, the two new lads, the three new lads, it gives them the time to just get themselves bedded in, and know what their surroundings are, and get to know the players who they’re playing with and what we require.
“When you give them time it always works.”
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Millwall and Rotherham United this week, which could tempt Bruce to rotate his options.
The Newcastle native, formerly of Wolves’ local rivals Aston Villa, has recently expressed concern about the size of the 30-strong squad he inherited from Jos Luhukay.
