Steve Bruce has said that he has spoken to Aston Villa about the managerial job.
Former Hull City manager Steve Bruce said on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (broadcast from 11am, October 9, 2016) that he is open to taking charge of Aston Villa.
Villa are on the lookout for a new permanent manager following the recent departure of Roberto Di Matteo.
The Villans are playing in the Championship this season following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Bruce is without a managerial job at the moment following his departure from Premier League club Hull in the summer.
The former Manchester United defender has revealed that he has held talks with Villa chiefs over taking charge of the first team.
The 55-year-old has also suggested that he would be delighted to become the next Villa manager.
“Well, I have had a chat with him, and that’s as far as it’s gone,” said Bruce on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (broadcast from 11am, October 9, 2016) when asked about the Villa managerial job.
“They did say they were in a process, which you have to respect. I am hoping that I will hear something this week.
“It would be a terrific job – I’m sure everyone would agree, it’s one of the big clubs in this country.
“It needs a little bit of turning around at the moment, but they’ve got a huge support. It’s a big, big club, so let’s hope I hear something this week.”
Villa are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season, but things are not going so well for them.
The Villans are 19th in the league table at the moment with 10 points from 11 matches, just two points above the relegation zone.
