Steve Bruce wanted to sign Leicester City’s Premier League outcast Daniel Amartey in 2018 but could he fit in at Newcastle United?

Has Daniel Amartey played his last game for Leicester City?
It might be too soon to suggest that the Ghana international will never wear the blue shirt again but, as long as Brendan Rodgers remains in charge, it seems that Amartey will remain an afterthought.
The Foxes’ utility man has not been seen since breaking his leg a year ago and he’s only been included in one matchday squad all season. Even then, he failed to get off the bench during a 4-0 EFL Cup thrashing of Luton Town.
And, speaking to the Mercury on Thursday, Rodgers admitted that Amartey was likely to be loaned out in January with Leicester keen to get the £5 million forgotten man some much needed game time.
Now, this is where Newcastle United come in.
Back in January 2018, the Telegraph reported that Steve Bruce was keen to bring Amartey to Aston Villa with the Geordie gaffer seemingly impressed by the former Copenhagen man’s ability to play at full-back and in central midfield.
Bruce is patrolling the touchline at Newcastle these days and it remains to be seen whether Amartey’s availability has resonated at St James’ Park.

The former Wigan and Sunderland boss has altered between a three and four-man defence this season and the 24-year-old could fill a number of positions in a Newcastle squad which isn’t exactly high on quality.
Amartey has the energy to get up and down all day from wing-back and he could thrive in at centre-back or perhaps even in midfield too, where his tenacity and defensive diligence should give Newcastle an extra bit of drive in a spluttering engine.
Funds are likely to be tight once more on Tyneside and Amartey on loan is exactly the kind of intelligent, affordable addition which Newcastle need to be looking at.
