Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that he felt Mile Jedinak was ‘terrific’ in the 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night.

Villa went into Tuesday’s clash having beaten Norwich City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon with two goals from Jonathan Kodjia, and the Ivorian hitman was at it again against QPR.

Kodjia bagged the only goal of the game in the early stages, making it seven goals in seven games for the former Bristol City man as Villa’s fine form continues.

It’s now seven wins in the last eight games for Villa, and whilst Kodjia is stealing most of the limelight with his goalscoring exploits, Mile Jedinak has emerged as an unsung hero.

The Australian international, 32, joined Villa from Crystal Palace last summer, and endured a slow start to life at Villa Park – and recent reports have suggested that he could leave the club this summer.

The Sun claimed over the weekend that manager Bruce would be looking to move Jedinak on this summer, with Villa allegedly looking to offload some big earners.

However, Jedinak has played a key part in Villa’s recent resurgence, protecting the back four and helping them keep seven clean sheets in the last eight Championship games.

After Tuesday’s victory, manager Bruce told the club’s official website that Jedinak has been a key player for Villa in recent weeks, and was terrific against QPR, with his versatility to play at centre back an added bonus for Bruce, whose comments suggest that the defensive midfielder is going nowhere.

“Big Mile has put his boots on again,” said Bruce. “He has been one of the big keys for us in terms of the way he leads the team and protects his centre-backs. I have to say he’s been terrific. He can play centre-half as well, which is a big plus too,” he added.
