Clare is reportedly set to sign for Aston Villa at the end of his Sheffield Wednesday contract.

Fans of Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday needn’t be surprised if Sean Clare moves to Villa Park.
The Wednesday midfielder is reportedly set to sign for the Villans after rejecting a new deal at Hillsborough (Daily Mirror).
And while Aston Villa’s name was not among those previously listed as Clare suitors, their interest may have been alluded to by Steve Bruce in February.

The Villa manager – whose 1993 goal for Manchester United effectively ended Wednesday’s Premier League title challenge, and who, 23 years later, beat the Owls to promotion as Hull City boss – is described as having ‘purred’ about Clare’s performance in Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat against the Midlands side at Hillsborough, in which the 21-year-old scored his one and only Championship goal (Sheffield Star).
According to Alan Biggs – an occasional Star reporter who was present at the post-match press conference – Bruce replied ‘isn’t he just?’ after it was put to the 57-year-old that Clare was ‘some player’.
Unfortunately for Sheffield Wednesday, however, there was little they could do by then to deter Bruce and Aston Villa, as the former Nike Academy player was already in the final few months of his contract.
But on the plus side, the Owls will be due compensation if Clare does leave for Villa, having offered him an improved deal at Hillsborough.
