Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce has admitted to the Sheffield Star that midfielder Josh Onomah is yet to show his best form at Hillsborough.

Onomah started just eight games for Wednesday over Jos Luhukay’s team in charge, with the Tottenham Hotspur loanee often overlooked.

Bruce knows Onomah well, having worked with the youngster at Aston Villa last season.

It was expected that Bruce’s arrival at Wednesday could take Onomah’s game to new heights.

However, the 21-year-old has just picked up another injury which is set to keep him out for four weeks.

And Bruce said: “Josh is extremely disappointed like we all are.

“It has been a stop-start season for him. It is a shame as the people of Sheffield have probably not seen the best of him.

“He was terrific for me at Aston Villa last season. He has got all the traits that a young player needs. He is big, strong and quick and can play in a few positions.

“The kid deserves a bit of luck but how often have we seen that in football where you have one injury and you end up getting another one?”

Bruce won his first game in charge at Wednesday, as the Owls beat Ipswich Town 1-0.

Wednesday are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Reading at Hillsborough.
