Aston Villa forward Rudy Gestede is expected to move to Middlesbrough soon.

Steve Bruce has confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that he expects Rudy Gestede to leave Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Rumours have surfaced (BBC Sport) suggesting that Gestede is currently closing in on a move to Middlesbrough.

And Bruce has confirmed that the striker is likely to leave Villa Park in the near future.

“Rudy Gestede’s up there [Middlesbrough] for talks,” Bruce said. “The two clubs agreed a fee yesterday or the day before.

“He’s up there for talks so I’d envisage that something would happen there. That’s about it at the moment.”

Gestede’s departure from Villa reduces the imbalance in Villa’s squad, which is very top heavy.

The claret and blues have a number of attacking options, but they have far less numbers defensively.

Bruce is expected to look to strengthen his back line, as Villa aim to climb into play off contention.

The Midlands side have improved since Bruce took charge, but they currently remain in mid-table.

Villa were beaten by Cardiff City last night, which means they sit in 12th place in the Championship standings – seven points away from the top six.
